Quick Summary

Kraken charges 0.40% maker / 0.80% taker fees on Kraken Pro at the starting tier, falling as your 30-day volume rises. The app / Instant Buy interface costs more (1% on instant and recurring buys, 1.5% on custom orders, plus a variable spread). Deposits via ACH are free; withdrawals vary by asset. Use limit orders and Kraken Pro to minimize costs.

Kraken Trading Fees

Kraken has two trading interfaces with different fee structures:

Simple Buy/Sell

The basic interface for quick purchases. Easy but expensive.

Trading Fee: 1% (1.5% custom)
Spread: Variable

Kraken Pro ✓

The advanced trading interface. Much lower fees.

Maker Fee: 0.40%
Taker Fee: 0.80%

Kraken Pro Fee Tiers

Kraken Pro fees decrease as your 30-day trading volume increases. Starting-tier rates, with app pricing for comparison:

Tier Maker Fee Taker Fee
$0+ (starting tier) 0.40% 0.80%
Higher volume Rates fall as 30-day volume rises See Kraken's official fee schedule
Stablecoin, pegged-token & FX pairs (starting tier) 0.20% 0.20%
Kraken app / Instant Buy (1.5% on custom orders) 1% + spread 1% + spread

Most retail traders stay in the first tier. At 0.40%/0.80%, Kraken Pro matches Coinbase Advanced's 0.40% maker fee, but its taker fee is higher (0.80% vs 0.60%). Binance.US posts the lowest spot fees (0% maker / 0.02% taker).

Maker vs Taker: What's the Difference?

Maker (0.40%)

You "make" liquidity by placing limit orders that don't immediately execute. Your order sits on the order book waiting to be filled.

Example: BTC is $85,000. You place a limit buy at $84,500.

Taker (0.80%)

You "take" liquidity by executing against existing orders. Market orders and limit orders that fill immediately are taker orders.

Example: BTC is $85,000. You place a market buy or a limit buy at $85,100.

Deposit Fees

Method Fee Time Limit
ACH (Bank Transfer) Free 3-5 business days $100 - $5,000/day
Wire Transfer $5 0-2 business days $2,000 min / no max
Debit Card 3.75% + $0.25 Instant Up to $7,500/day
Crypto Deposit Free Network dependent No limit

Best strategy: Use ACH for free deposits if you can wait a few days. Wire transfer for larger amounts when speed matters. Avoid debit card unless you need instant access—that 3.75% fee adds up fast.

Withdrawal Fees

Crypto withdrawal fees vary by asset. Here are the most common:

Asset Withdrawal Fee Approx. USD Value
Bitcoin (BTC) 0.00015 BTC ~$13
Ethereum (ETH) 0.0035 ETH ~$11
USDC (ERC-20) 7.50 USDC $7.50
Solana (SOL) 0.01 SOL ~$1.50
Dogecoin (DOGE) 2 DOGE ~$0.70
USD (Wire) $35 $35

Frequently Asked Questions
